You’re looking at one of two — count ‘em, two — variant headline pictures for this week’s Podtoid.
This week, Chad Concelmo and Topher Cantler dropped by to fill the voids left by Bastard McHatesOcarinaOfTime and Floozy O’Doesn’tPlayVideogames. In what may be the first ever episode of PodtoidForceGO!, Chad, Topher, Jim and I discussed the following:

Topher and Jim are best friends

A urine-soaked Miyamoto

Chad Concelmo: Next-gen ejaculator

Nobody agrees with Wardrox

Next week’s sonnet/illustration theme will be “Jim versus a Giraffe”

This week, KMCC won the $25 for his remarkably intelligent question concerning videogame sales and the recession. Just put your email in the comments to get your stimulus package.

Anyway, yeah. What are you waiting for? Listen. I apologize in advance, Droll.

So, yeah. Good week to be a podcast host.

Anyway, this week’s episode (which can be found here) was another random collection of news and skullduggery. Highlights included:

Poetry aplenty

Tiff Chow: Not Lacist

Jim makes a Mirror’s Edge funny

The Guardian, Glenn beck, Cheryl Olson, and Euphoria

The MGS Podtoid Contest Winner (put your email address in the comments)!

Aaron Linde still hates everything good in the world

This week, ryanrab1 won the $25 for asking a question that made Tiff sad. She may not sound upset on the actual show, but trust me — she was bawling afterward.

There’s a story behind Colin’s Bear Animation, of course, but it’s just as hilarious without context. Whether you watch the original video, or the nine minute loop, or any of the myriad homages, Colin’s Bear Animation remains the greatest thing to ever grace the Internet — short of this week’s Podtoid, that is.

See that segueway? See how smooth that was? Yeeuh.

This week, the regular Podtoid cast talked about random news stories from the past few months. Topics of discussion included:

- A sonnet and a new contest

- Differing opinions on GTA IV

- Grand Theft Childhood would depress my Ethics professor

- Edible videogame heroes

- Gentleman Dinosaur

- achievements_unlock_all

So, yeah — there’s a new contest this week, in addition to the regular $25 award for the best comment (which, this week, goes to Phoenix Gamma); hit the jump for the details on the contest, future sonnets, and stuff about Gentleman Dinosaur.

The contest is as follows: make a cblog titled “Podtoid MGS,” then record yourself saying some variant of the phrase, “shut the fuck up, Chad,” as any Metal Gear Solid character(s) you choose.

Don’t be any meaner to Chad than “shut the fuck up,” though — this is meant to be good-natured ribbing with a grin and a hug, not balls-out maliciousness.

As far as sonnets are concerned: from now on I’m going to put potential sonnet themes in the pre-show posts, so if you feel like writing one then we’ll read it on air. As it stands, the next three weeks will be full of Brilliam’s wonderful poems about the Podtoid members — after that, pretty much anything based on our show theme will be up for grabs.

Dinosaur Gentleman: If anyone actually makes a game fitting some or all of the provisions Jim and Aaron describe in the latter half of the podcast, we’ll do something for you. I dunno what, yet, but it’ll be something cool. Maybe you can ask us to do something and we’ll do it, maybe. I dunno. I just want a “shit in a bowler hat then put it on a dinosaur’s head” game mechanic.

Valentine’s Day is one of two things: a corporate-driven exercise in greed and materialism, or a shallow excuse for couples to exchange dishonest platitudes and have underwhelming sex in an effort to follow society’s instructions as to what romance should be.

This week’s Podtoid is the antidote to all that. We actually engage in a lot of legitimate debate (no, seriously — we do) and, up until the end, completely ignore the cultural abortion that is Valentine’s Day.

Head to the official Podtoid page and listen enraptured as Jim Sterling, Tiff Chow, Aaron Linde and myself discuss the following:

What’s the deal with Boom Blox: a.k.a. “Action Jenga With Bombs.”

Jesus vs. Nintendo: There’s no “sell your daughter into slavery” minigame in Super Mario Bros, nor is there a “publicly murder your wife for adultery” bonus round in Halo.

BioWare? More like Bio-Scared, am I right: Should game companies take responsibility for defending themselves? Does gaming need an anti-Jack Thompson?

And, of course, reader questions. This week, Lord_Satorious wins $25 bucks for asking — well, not necessarily the best question, but one that certainly…well, you’ll see. Just listen to the podcast. Satorious, post your email address in the comments after you’ve composed yourself.

This week's Podtoid is the antidote to all that. We actually engage in a lot of legitimate debate (no, seriously -- we do) and, up until the end, completely ignore the cultural abortion that is Valentine's Day.

Head to the official Podtoid page and listen enraptured as Jim Sterling, Tiff Chow, Aaron Linde and myself discuss the following:
What's the deal with Boom Blox: a.k.a. "Action Jenga With Bombs."

Jesus vs. Nintendo: There's no "sell your daughter into slavery" minigame in Super Mario Bros, nor is there a "publicly murder your wife for adultery" bonus round in Halo.

BioWare? More like Bio-Scared, am I right: Should game companies take responsibility for defending themselves? Does gaming need an anti-Jack Thompson?
And, of course, reader questions. This week, Lord_Satorious wins $25 bucks for asking -- well, not necessarily the best question, but one that certainly...well, you'll see. Just listen to the podcast. Satorious, post your email address in the comments after you've composed yourself.

I will be completely honest with you: throughout the entirety of this week’s episode, Jim sounds like the Predator and Aaron occasionally sounds like Max Headroom. As appropriate as this is given our robot-themed website, I thought you deserved some fair warning.

Outside of the weird technical issues caused by a thunderstorm in BlindsideDorkville, this week we talked about our favorite gaming quotes, which, in turn, just served as an excuse to talk about philosophy and storytelling and control and auteur theory and rape without needing specific reasons to do so. Head to the official Podtoid page and check it out, if you’re man enough.

Our discussion topics included:

Evaluating retro games using modern sensibilities - Don’t hate us, RFGO; we only talk about it for a moment.

Are well-written games experiencing a renaissance? - Did they go away completely, or have they always been around in niche genres?

Aaron regales us with a story of rape - And for once, it isn’t from his childhood.

Rock star developers - Good or bad?

If Guybrush has learned one thing, it’s this - Always play Monkey Island.

With Monthly Musings and eight hundred college assignments to go through this week, I must apologize for the lack of a pre-show post and therefore, for the lack of reader questions and therefore, for the lack of a $25 prize. I will not make this mistake again. Not this week, anyway.

This week, Aaron Linde, Daniel “Husky” Lingen, Jim Sterling and I discussed 2007 — now generally referred to as the “best year ever” for videogaming — in between numerous jabs at Jeff Minter and convoluted (but efficient) metaphors for gaming in general. Topics of discussion include:

-The Games we Play - Jim accidentally buys GH3, and Space Giraffe: Irritating and pretentious, or really irritating and pretentious?

-Was 2007 indeed the “best year ever” for videogaming? - Linde commits PC sacrilege, Husky is a sk8er

-If 2007 was the best year ever for videogaming, what the hell do we have to look forward to in 2008? - Just delayed stuff, mainly

And, of course, reader questions. This week’s best discussion came from Sharpless, even though I sort of summarized and misinterpreted his original question. Either way, buddy, you’ve won 25 bucks, so don’t hassle me about it.

On the other hand, if you don’t support Podtoid, I’ll never get funding for my new venture: a Law & Order spin off about dragons who solve crimes. It won’t really be anything like Podtoid, but L&O: The Scales of Justice will feature many of the same characters including Zombie Lennie Briscoe, and Jim Sterling. Of course, Dick Wolf hasn’t returned any of my calls, but as soon as Rysher gets back to me with some figures on what the budget looks like, I just know he’ll be on board.

I think I totally jinxed us when I was talking about, y’know, delays when soliciting requests for questions this past weekend. Turns out our recording software was listening and said “Hey, I got a crazy idea — let’s make Linde sound like he’s laughing in anticipation of forthcoming jokes, make long awkward pauses longer and more awkward, and poop in his cereal!”

So, there’s a slight technical futz in the works this week, but nothing that can’t be fixed with enough gin and positive thinking (but mostly gin). I’m gonna be outfitting my ol’ rig with a new bundle of happiness (2GB ram kit, hurrah!) from Newegg next week, so with any luck this won’t be an issue in coming Podtoids. Rather than scrap what was an otherwise excellent show, however, I’m gonna kick up the cognitive dissonance array and sally forth with Podtoid 33. Huzzah!

This week we’ve got yours truly, Jim “Monocles!” Sterling, Nick Chester and the good Rev. Anthony talking over the Bungie and Microsoft split, Majesco’s Holly Hobbie & Friends game of the year candidacy, and more. Hit the stream, download direkt or hop on iTunes to listen.

Evening, kittens. We’re coming up on a near year of Podtoid, and to celebrate this milestone the higher-ups thought that it’d be best if I destroyed the outfit as soon as possible, and therefore positioned me as host. I’m not your real dad and I won’t pretend to be, but maybe we can get to know each other and be really good friends, yeah? Good.
We discussed many things, insulted a lot of people (yeah, I’m going to get letters) and made some jokes that probably would have been edited out under the previous rules. For those who haven’t figured it out yet, I don’t censor anything, so if you have thin skin — that you habitually cover with faux fox costumes — you’re probably going to be upset with episode 30.

Also, we announced the winner of the $25 Best Question contest. I could tell you who it was right here, but honestly, I want you all to go listen to the damn Podtoid, so just go do it! Now!

As proud as we are about actually having caused someone bodily harm with our words, we are also very sorry that we actually caused someone bodily harm with our words. Sorry Demios, but next time watch where the hell you’re going.

Piping hot from our oven, here is the latest episode of Podtoid. This week our cast consists of:

Nex —————————- Portland, OR

Ron Workman —————- Sarasota, FL

Aaron Linde ——————- Bellevue, WA

Colette Bennett —————- Los Angeles, CA

Joe Burling ——————– We assume he has a home

While I could take the time to tell you what went on during the Podtoid, I think that would dissipate some of the mystery around the whole thing. It’s just like when a girl puts out on the first date, and the guy never calls her again because he’s already made his conquest. See, the Podtoid is like a beautiful woman, who you can’t just bang one night and then forget about. No, you have to buy her things, maybe cars or expensive watches, and you have to meet her parents before you’ll ever get close to her theoretical, electronic bajingo. Mama raised us right, y’heard?

<itunes:summary>As proud as we are about actually having caused someone bodily harm with our words, we are also very sorry that we actually caused someone bodily harm with our words. Sorry Demios, but next time watch where the hell you're going.

Piping hot from our oven, here is the latest episode of Podtoid. This week our cast consists of:
Nex ---------------------------- Portland, OR

Ron Workman ---------------- Sarasota, FL

Aaron Linde ------------------- Bellevue, WA

Colette Bennett ---------------- Los Angeles, CA

Joe Burling -------------------- We assume he has a home
While I could take the time to tell you what went on during the Podtoid, I think that would dissipate some of the mystery around the whole thing. It's just like when a girl puts out on the first date, and the guy never calls her again because he's already made his conquest. See, the Podtoid is like a beautiful woman, who you can't just bang one night and then forget about. No, you have to buy her things, maybe cars or expensive watches, and you have to meet her parents before you'll ever get close to her theoretical, electronic bajingo. Mama raised us right, y'heard?

Today, we bring you the special E3 Wrapup Edition of Podtoid. I’d like to tell you what went on, but since I spent the entire week feeding the Destructokids and making sure they got to school on time, I can’t. After all, someone has to keep the home fires burning while everyone else galavants all around Los Angeles, cheating on me with god-knows-who and catting around until god-knows-when.

I promised myself I wouldn’t cry, but mother always warned me against getting involved with a robot. “They’re shiftless. Just like the Jews!”, she’d say. Mother was stunningly racist, but she as also right. I swear, if I find one more lip-print on Aaron’s metallic collar, or see another video of Colette like the one I was forced to watch yesterday, I swear I’m f***ing leaving!

*Nex breaks into uncontrollable sobbing*
